History of Ijewere & Co.

Ijewere & Co. is a prominent indigenous Nigerian chartered accountancy and tax consultancy firm established in 1979 by Dr. Emmanuel Itoya Ijewere. 

Founding and Early Years

Founder: The firm was founded by Dr. Emmanuel Itoya Ijewere (1946-2023), a highly respected Nigerian businessman and professional with extensive experience in banking, finance, and agriculture.

Background: Emmanuel Ijewere began his accounting career in 1965 with Coopers & Lybrand and later worked as a Senior Manager at KPMG and a partner at D.O. Dafinone & Company before establishing his own firm.

Establishment: Ijewere & Co. was established in Nigeria in 1979 and quickly grew to become one of the nation's most reputable indigenous accountancy firms and tax consultants. The firm has been headquartered in Lagos since its inception. 

Growth and Legacy

Reputation: Over more than 40 years, the firm has built a strong track record, known for its integrity, excellence, and transparency in providing audit, assurance, tax, and business consulting services to clients both in Nigeria and internationally.

Leadership: Dr. Ijewere was a prominent leader in the Nigerian professional landscape, having served as a past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Institute of Directors (IoD), and the Nigerian Red Cross.

National Impact: Ijewere & Co. has played a significant role in national development, with its founder serving as the pioneer chairman of the Agriculture and Food Security Commission and a director of the committee responsible for the implementation of the Modified Value Added Tax (VAT) in 1993.

Current Status: Following the death of its founder in December 2023, the firm continues its operations under the leadership of a new generation of partners, including Mr. Oyetoyan Kunle Vincent, who currently serves as the Managing Partner. The firm offers a wide range of services including financial and accounts reconciliation, debt recovery, and forensic services.
